The Epic of Gilgamesh

A New Cinematic Mythology

“Gilgamesh, with might divine, did shine,
With Enkidu, his friend, their fates entwine,
Seeking life eternal, their legend lives in time.”
— Ancient Sumerian Oral Tradition

The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the oldest stories ever told — carved in cuneiform on ancient clay tablets, passed down through generations of storytellers. And yet, its themes feel strikingly familiar today. Love, friendship, grief, and the search for meaning in the face of mortality — these are the cornerstones of human experience. Our vision is to bring this timeless myth to life on screen in a way that honors its ancient roots while speaking directly to modern hearts.

This cinematic adaptation reimagines Gilgamesh, the legendary king of Uruk, as a flawed but deeply human character. At the heart of the story is his bond with Enkidu — a wild man shaped by the gods to challenge and ultimately transform him. Together, they embark on heroic quests, confront divine forces, and grapple with questions that still echo through the ages: What makes a life meaningful? Can we escape death? How do we face loss and change?

Our screenplay follows a classic structure — a Prelude, three Acts, and an Interlude — designed to balance mythic scale with emotional depth. Act I centers on the rise of friendship and their feats of strength. The Interlude marks a moment of loss and transformation. Act II leads us into sorrow and introspection, and Act III becomes a journey inward, as Gilgamesh seeks the secret of eternal life.

While rooted in the standard Akkadian version compiled by Sîn-lēqi-unninni, the script also draws from older Sumerian stories to enrich the narrative. Visually, the film brings to life the grandeur of ancient Mesopotamia — from the towering ziggurats and bustling streets of Uruk to the mystical Cedar Forest and the cosmic realms of the gods. With a mix of practical sets, rich costume design inspired by historical sources, and cutting-edge visual effects, we aim to immerse the audience in a world that feels both ancient and alive.

But this isn’t just about spectacle. It’s about what lies beneath: the emotional truth of Gilgamesh’s journey. His evolution — from a self-absorbed ruler to a man changed by love, loss, and longing — is the beating heart of the film. Enkidu’s arc, too, brings depth: from wildness to wisdom, from isolation to connection. And through the gods — sometimes cruel, sometimes compassionate — we glimpse the unpredictable forces that shape our destinies.

This is a film about humanity at its most raw and real, told through the lens of myth. It’s about confronting death, and in doing so, discovering what it means to truly live.

We invite you to join us on this creative journey — from early concept art to script development — as we bring The Epic of Gilgamesh to the screen. It’s time to reawaken this ancient tale and share its wisdom with a new generation. Because in the end, the search for immortality isn’t about living forever. It’s about leaving behind something that does.
